Innate Antimicrobial Immunity in Wound Healing and Repair
Skin forms a first line of defense and protects us against injuries and pathogenic infections. Following breaching of the skin barrier due to accidental or surgical trauma, the body is at risk to become invaded by pathogens. Human skin has a delicate innate immune system that establishes a natural antimicrobial defense system and this innate immune response is critical to unperturbed wound healing and preventing systemic infection
