Title of Talk: Highlighting African-Canadian history through art and technology

Western's EDI Office and the Faculty of Visual Arts are excited to welcome Robert Small to speak to our campus and community.

When Robert Small was a teenager drawing Spider-men, he did not realize that one day he would revolutionize the celebration of Black History Month through his art.

Another milestone Small would never think he would achieve is becoming an Order of Canada recipient for his art. He was given Canada’s highest honour awarded to a citizen because for over a quarter of a decade, Small’s art has been featured in a poster he creates called “LEGACY”. Distributed annually, the poster has educated millions about the history, contributions and accomplishments of African-Canadians.

Small’s talk will focus on his experience a self-taught artist who has merged his artistic talent, skills as an entrepreneur and teaching degree to demonstrate the power of art and conviction for Black advocacy.
