Nature's Wild: Love, Sex and Law in the Caribbean

Andil Gosine
York University

Friday, February 18th
11:30 am

Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies next speakers series event will take place on Friday, February 18, at 11:30am. We will have the pleasure to e-host Professor Andil Gosine from York University, talking about his book, Nature's Wild: Love, Sex and Law in the Caribbean.

In Nature's Wild, Andil Gosine engages with questions of humanism, queer theory, and animality to examine and revise understandings of queer desire in the Caribbean. Surveying colonial law, visual art practices, and contemporary activism, Gosine shows how the very concept of homosexuality in the Caribbean (and in the Americas more broadly) has been overdetermined by a colonially influenced human/animal divide. The book means to accompany an art installation to be unveiled later this year.
