Painted By My Hand: Works from the Collection of Philip Aziz

Painted By My Hand: Works from the Collection of Philip Aziz features a selection of paintings, lithographs, and photographs from the personal collection of Philip Aziz (1923 – 2009), a renowned London-based artist whose works have been shown in London, Toronto, Detroit, and New York. Aziz's pieces are part of institutional and private collections worldwide.

This exhibition offers a comprehensive retrospective of Aziz’s career, showcasing his skill in the challenging medium of egg tempera. His meticulous attention to detail and unique use of gold and silver leaf add a distinctive richness and depth to his works. Spanning over five decades, the collection highlights the evolution of

Aziz's artistic journey from his early religious and devotional art to his later abstract explorations. Aziz’s early works show his interest in liturgical and devotional subjects, drawing inspiration from the rich traditions of Christian art and Orthodox icons. These pieces are characterized by their opulent use of gold and silver, emphasizing spiritual themes. As his style evolved, Aziz's art transitioned to abstract representations, utilizing simple geometric shapes to capture the essence of natural forms. These abstract works invite viewers to engage with profound spiritual themes through organic forms.

Painted By My Hand not only celebrates the progression of Aziz's artistic style but also provides an intimate look into his creative process and the development of his distinctive aesthetic. This exhibition stands as a testament to Aziz's enduring legacy and his significant contribution to the art world, blending traditional techniques with contemporary motifs.
