The Department of History will be welcoming their own Associate Professor Allyson May (History, Western) as the speaker for the second Research Seminar Series of 2024-2025! Associate Professor Allyson May's presentation titled 'Murder, She Wrote: Prosecuting Homicide in Early Victorian London', will be held on October 24th, 2024.
In 1840 Lord William Russell was murdered, in his sleep, by his young valet, François Benjamin Courvoisier. This presentation explores how an infamous case was investigated and prosecuted in a time prior to the creation of either Scotland Yard or the Crown Prosecution Service.
