Don't take this lightly

The “Written on the Earth Project”

Please - Do Not Take this Lightly
A Collaborative Exhibition and “Tornado Store”

Exhibition Dates: January 10 - 24, 2019
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 10 from 5-7pm

Visual Arts Western’s Third & Fourth Year Print Media students have been engaging in an exciting collaboration with 4 guest artists, Brenda Fuhrman, Ellen Moffat, Eeva Siivonen, and Matt Trueman, over the past several months. Utilizing multi-media art practices including printmaking, sculpture, video and sound, their work considers the effects of tornados – on human and other-than-human subjects and situations. This innovative research-creation project is at the heart of the exhibition, “Please - Do Not Take this Lightly,” to be presented in the John Labatt Visual Arts Centre’s ArtLab Gallery from January 10 - 24, 2019. The expansive artistic undertaking is linked with a major initiative by researchers from Western Engineering. The Ontario Tornado Project is an important multi-year investigation into tornado effects in this province, led by Acting Dean of Engineering, Dr. Greg Kopp.

“Please - Do Not Take this Lightly,” is an elaborate, large-scale exhibition that will be accompanied by a “Tornado Store,” containing artist’s multiples for sale. The proceeds from the sales will be split between the artist producers and a contribution to be weather-related disaster relief.
