Research Seminar Series- Ukraine, not 'the' Ukraine

The Department of History will be welcoming their own Associate Professor Marta Dyczok (Joint Appointment with Political Science, Western) as the speaker for the third Research Seminar Series of 2024-2025! Associate Professor Marta Dyczok's presentation titled 'Ukraine, not 'the' Ukraine' will be held on November 14th, 2024.

Have you ever wondered why some people say ‘the’ Ukraine but not ‘the’ Canada? It’s because in the past others have written Ukraine’s history as part of their own, a region. This presentation will look at how Marta's Dyczok's latest book joins voices decolonizing that way of thinking and explains the history of Ukraine as an actor not a pawn in international history.
