The Aesthetics and Politics of Urban Atmospherics
In this lecture I introduce the notion of ‘atmoculture’ to describe the rise of a new configuration in contemporary urban society. Atmoculture is a way of managing the urban sensorium and the feelings that come with it. I suggest a genealogy of the atmospheric turn in urban politics and governance, and I also consider some examples to highlight how atmoculture can backfire.
