Musical Inscriptions in the Medieval Eastern Mediterranean: A Cross – Cultural Perspective.
Our second speaker is Dr. Uri Jacob, Postdoctoral Associate, Don Wright Faculty of Music.
Dr. Jacob's presentation will focus on notated manuscripts, specifically how this phenomenon challenges the historiographical narrative suggesting that during pre-modern times musical notation and inscription were exclusively used in the West, pointing out the relevance of music to areas such as medieval communication and Eurocentric bias in academia.
This lecture will take place on March 16, 2023, in Lawson Hall 2207C at 3:30 pm ET.
