Developing a Typology of Dehumanization with Cross-Cultural Applicability

Dr. Lemos is Professor of Hebrew Bible at Huron University College and an affiliate of the Centre for Transitional Justice.  Last year, she was Gerstein Distinguished Visiting Professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto.  Lemos received her BA at Brown University in Judaic Studies and her PhD at Yale University in Religious Studies.  She is the author of two books, including Violence and Personhood in Ancient Israel and Comparative Contexts (Oxford, 2017), and the coeditor of three volumes, including the first volume of the Cambridge World History of Genocide (Cambridge, 2023).  She has published over two dozen articles and essays and been featured on a CBC Ideas podcast.  Her work has been translated into Portuguese, Swedish, Spanish, and Vietnamese.  She is currently writing her third book, called Rehumanization: Violence and Healing Across Time and Culture.
