Cadavers, Cadavers and GMOs: Vignettes in Chemical Ecology
Dr. McNeil will discuss three ongoing projects looking at the chemical ecology of three different interspecific interactions. The first relates to the role of marking chemicals produced by the dung beetle, Deltochilum furcatum, in reducing interspecific competition between its offspring and those of fly maggots. The second relates to the monarch butterfly, well known for sequestering secondary plant compounds as chemical defences against predators. The third study relates to the pheromone biology of the fall armyworm, a species that have developed resistance to Bt corn in Brazil.
