Geese, gizmos and globetrotters: how ecology and technology contribute to the conservation of Canada’s Arctic birds

Dr. Paul Smith is a Research Scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, specialising in the study of coastal birds and ecosystems in Canada’s Arctic.  His group studies the impacts of the changing Arctic environment on the breeding ecology of birds, and explore innovative applications of technology to better understand the behaviour of migratory birds through the year.  His current research addresses the impacts of a surprising but significant agent of environmental change – overabundant geese – on Arctic ecosystems.
