The role of de novo mutation in genome evolution

The role of de novo mutation in genome evolution mutation is a fundamentally important force for biology as it is ultimately responsible for the generation of genetic variation.  However, despite its central role in biology the study of mutation has been impeded due to the rarity with which new mutations occur. However, with the advent of new sequencing technologies we can now investigate mutation throughout the genome toprovide insights in to this process. In this seminar I will discuss my research into the nature of de novo mutation in the green algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.
