Take ownership of your corner of the web—outside of corporate platforms. The handcrafted web and zine-inspired web movement are part of a growing countercultural pushback against the slick, corporate, and algorithm-driven nature of the modern internet.

This movement embraces DIY aesthetics, creative independence, and personal expression, using tools like Neocities, Zonelets, and other low-barrier platforms to build sites reminiscent of the early web.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the basics of HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Use Zonelets and understand blogging
  • Participate creating and publishing a simple webpage
  • Recognize copyright and creative commons

Please bring a laptop to the workshop for our hands-on portion for starting your own website.
