The Lynda Shaw Memorial Lecture Series was established in memory of Lynda Shaw, a third-year mechanical engineering student at Western who was murdered near Highway 401 in 1990.

This year's guest speaker is Western Engineering alumna, Asha Parekh, PhD’15 Biomedical, Co-Founder and CEO of FrontLine Medical Technologies. Consistent with this year’s International Women’s Day theme of ‘Invest in Women - Accelerate progress’, Asha shares her successful entrepreneurial engineering career and her passion for women in STEM.

Co-Founder and CEO FrontLine Medical Technologies

Asha completed her BESc'07 in Chemical Engineering followed by her MEng and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Western University. With a Medical Innovation Fellow (MIF) and post-doctoral fellowship in neurology, her passion for innovative medical technology inspired her to start FrontLine Medical. She went on to successfully develop the COBRA-OS, a medical life-saving device used in for temporary hemorrhage control and resuscitation in emergency situations and is now being used internationally by medical professionals, trauma centers and within the US military.
