Dr. Prachi Srivastava "Profit and Philanthropy: what are private investors doing in global education?"

Global education is estimated to reach a market size of $US 10 trillion by 2030 due to opportunities in emerging economies in the Global South. Unsurprisingly, it has attracted an increasing number of private investors. The range of investors is broad. These include private and corporate foundations associated with philanthropic aims; profit-oriented investors including corporations, venture capital and private equity firms, among others; and impact investors and social enterprises with the dual aims of social impact and economic return. Regardless of their status, non-profit, for-profit, or hybrid, most investors state their aim to improve education access and quality in areas of need globally. But, is this actually happening? Prof. Prachi Srivastava draws on findings from her research program on non-state private actors in education in Asia, to seek some answers to the questions: What is the range of private investors in education? Where are they operating? What education initiatives are they funding? And why?
