International collaboration in doctoral programs can enhance the academic quality, their relevance, and their attractiveness to potential applicants. Internationally designed and delivered programs support international network building for our PhD students, open doors to lasting international research collaboration and improve Western’s international visibility and reputation.

This webinar is the first in a series of five webinars that explore different models of collaboration, various funding models and a range of possible partner regions/countries. The webinars in this series are jointly designed and delivered by Western International and the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at Western University.

The first webinar focuses on “International Research Training Groups”, a model developed in Germany, which aims at bringing together teams of PhD students and supervisors, often from interdisciplinary backgrounds, whose projects share a common focus. Two or more institutions from two countries work together. Funding is being provided by the German Research Foundation (DFG) with matching funding on the Canadian side coming from the NSERC-CREATE program.
