Dr. Homa Hoodfar:
“Framing Academic Freedom and Critical Thinking as Transnational Rights”

Dr. Hoodfar’s primary research is in legal and political anthropology. She examines the intersection of political economy; gender and citizenship rights; women’s formal and informal politics, gender and public sphere in Muslim contexts. In 2016, Professor Hoodfar was detained in Tehran’s Evin prison for 112 days.  She was arrested while visiting and conducting research in Iran, and prosecutors in Iran accused Hoodfar of “dabbling in feminism."
