Art Now! Speakers' Series Presents

The Returners: Seven Conversations

With Special Guest Speakers:

Jean-Paul Kelly, Artist (BFA, Western; MVS, University of Toronto; Sobey Award Nominee)
Jean-Paul Kelly (Canadian; b. 1977, London; lives and works in Toronto) and creates videos and exhibitions that pose questions about the limits of representation by examining complex associations between found photographs, videos, sounds, and online media streams. A graduate of the Master of Visual Studies program at the University of Toronto (2005, Studio Art), he has taught Studio and lecture-based courses in the Visual Studies program as well as at the School of Image Arts, Ryerson University and OCAD University.

Kelly Jazvac, Artist, Visual Arts Professor (BA, Guelph; MFA, U. Vic., Sobey Award Nominee)>br>
Kelly Jazvac works primarily in installation, sculpture and collage. Her mostly abstract works explore possible connections between material quality, surface, consumerism, and desire. Alongside geologist Patricia L. Corcoran and oceanographer Charles J. Moore she is one of the primary researchers of “Plastiglomerate,” a composite material that forms when plastic melts and bonds with debris and natural forms. In turn, these transform into new cultural creations denoting our current geological period. Jazvac graduated with her M.F.A. from the University of Victoria in 2006 and received her B.A.from the University of Guelph in 2003.
The Department of Visual Arts at Western University is pleased to present the Art in the Public Sphere series of speakers and exhibitions. This important series provides unique opportunities to engage with local, national, and international artists, curators, and scholars. All events hosted at Western University are free and are open to the public. Coinciding with the departments' 50th anniversary celebrations, Visual Arts presents, "The Returners" featuring past graduates, faculty and artists originally from London Ontario. The Fall 2017 series is organized by Prof. Patrick Mahon as part of ongoing academic offerings at the Department of Visual Art at Western University.
