Drawing on years of work with olive harvesters, seed savers, ecofarmers, and foragers in Palestine, I contemplate what these kinds of fertile activities offer in terms of the quotidian and prosaic acts of making a living or augmenting one’s income; in terms of ephemeral but memorable acts of cooking, preserving, and eating; and in terms of a site of preserving Palestinian plant knowledge, distinctive cultivars and delicious recipes. I consider what this site of field research might have to offer for wider anthropological considerations of hope, resistance, and formulating futures.
