Beyond the Nuclear Family: Children and Household Extension

2016-2017 Sociology Colloquium Series

Natasha Pilkauskas
Ford School of Public Policy
University of Michigan

Friday March 24
11:30 am
SSC 5220

Dr. Pilkauskas’ research broadly focuses on the health, development and wellbeing of low-income families and children. She is particularly interested in the role that private support networks play in helping families make ends meet.

Children’s living arrangements are increasingly diverse and complex, and a robust body of research has documented links between living arrangements, economic wellbeing, and child outcomes. This talk will examine household extension among U.S. children, focusing on the presence of household members beyond the nuclear family.
