Modeling Emergency Calls with Spatial-temporal Point Process

 

Abstract:

Clustering or cascading is a common pattern in emergency calls. The presentation is based on our published paper, which explored the mechanism(s) behind this phenomenon. We focused on predicting emergency calls by modeling the characteristics of cascading phenomenon for three different emergencies, Medical, Fire and Traffic. Specifically, we attempted to quantify the probability of an emergency call occurring within a specified temporal and spatial window with the linear Hawkes process. The spatial-temporal patterns of emergency calls from Montgomery County, US, were thoroughly studied. The results illustrated that cascading phenomenon in emergency calls is strongly present.
