Jonathan Schaeffer: The Canadian AI Opportunity

For several decades, Canada has been a major player in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Although academia and some large multi-national companies recognized this, Canadian industry and government have been slow to recognize and take advantage of the economic potential. All of this changed in the 2017 Federal budget, which allocated $125M to growing the AI ecosystem in Canada.

This talk will give a gentle introduction to AI using games as examples, motivate why AI has become "the next big thing", and discuss the Canadian AI situation. We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something spectacular to the Canadian economy. No pressure, of course!
