Lee Higgins (York St. John University, UK)
“Contemporary Community Music: Practices, Ideas, and Understandings”

During this presentation, I will introduce the field of community music and locate its diverse practice as a global phenomenon. Using biographical reflection, I will place myself in the historical narrative teasing out the sentiments that appear to drive many of those that engage in its activities. From a variety of examples, I will reflect on some conceptual understandings and articulate why I think community music is important within the current music education landscape.

All Colloquium series events take place on selected Fridays in Talbot College 101 at 3:30 pm. (unless otherwise noted). Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend!
