Jorge Cham

Jorge Cham, creator of the comic strip “Piled Higher and Deeper (PHD) Comics”, will be speaking at Western University on November 3, 2016, as part of the Heidi Balsillie Fairmount Foundation Health and Wellness Lecture Series. This event is presented by the Society of Graduate Students (SOGS) in collaboration with the School of the Graduate & Post-Doctoral Studies (SGPS) and Student Experience.

Written and drawn by Cham, PHD Comics follows the lives of several grad students. First published in the fall of 1997 when Cham was a grad student himself at Stanford University, the strip deals with issues of life in graduate school, including the difficulties of scientific research, the perils of procrastination, the complex student–supervisor relationship and the perpetual search for free food.

Cham’s lectures focus on the theme of stress and anxiety in Graduate and Professional school, with a humorous touch. His talks examine the source of academics’ anxieties, explore the myth of procrastination and help academics convey what they’ve learned to the outside world.

1:30pm: “The Power of Procrastination” Jorge Cham lecture

2:20pm: Question and Answer with Jorge Cham

2:30pm: Screening of PHD Movie 2
