"Life Under Mike... And Doug: Understanding and Resisting Austerity in Ontario"

A screening of the documentary film "Life Under Mike" (Guerrilla Films, 2000), introduced by Canadian journalist Dimitri Lascaris.

Followed by:

Panel discussion and Q & A on "what's happening now" and "where do we go from here" with filmmaker James Motluk and London North Centre MPP Terance Kernaghan, moderated by Dimitri Lascaris.

James Motluk’s film “Life Under Mike” investigates the impact of Ontario Premiere Mike Harris’ 1990s austerity budgets on women, the working poor, parents, immigrants, union members, and other not-wealthy Ontarians. It identifies some of the major groups and institutions benefitting from budget cuts and tax cuts.

MPP Terence Kernaghan has been working against budget-slashing austerity moves on the part of the Ford administration in Queen’s Park since his 2018 election. As a keen observer and an active participant in the current legislative process, his remarks will help us understand how austerity is affecting our present and future.

Journalist Dimitri Lascaris has been reporting on on economic, political, and environmental matters in North America and Europe. His reporting integrates rigorous analysis of European and North and South American financial and policy developments with “on-the-ground” (and on location) accounts of the experiences and prospects of average people. Dimitri’s Canadian reporting centrally concerns environmental and political-economic matters.

All are invited - admission is free.

Street parking is available in the neighbourhood.
