Innovation Ambassadors Showcase

The Innovation Ambassadors speaker series provides an opportunity to see what research and innovations are coming from various areas of the university. See what your colleagues are working on and how you can engage in the innovation ecosystem here at Western and in the local community.

The speaker series will feature faculty members from across campus and special guest panelists from industry.

Description

The sophistication, maintenance, and supply needs of modern biomedical equipment used in the developed world is taken for granted. However, much of this equipment is not suitable outside of urban centres with many supporting resources. Creating biomedical technologies designed to operate in remote or low-resource environments would have an enormous impact on the health of the world’s population. October’s speakers will discuss Western’s Frugal Biomedical Innovations Program and provide and example of such technology.

This month's speakers are:

James Lacefield

James Lacefield is Director of the School of Biomedical Engineering and Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Medical Biophysics at Western.  He is the Project Lead for Western’s new Program in Frugal Biomedical Innovations.

Ian Cunningham

Ian Cunningham is a Western Professor and Robarts Scientist in Medical Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering and Medical Imaging. He is the research mentor on a frugal biomedical project to develop a low-cost digital microscope for remote diagnosis of malaria in low resource countries.
