CGS-M Workshops

Friday, November 15, 2019
11:30 am - 1:30 pm
University College (UC)
Room: 4401

If you're applying for an MA in English or an MA/MFA in Creative Writing, you may be eligible to apply for a Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS-M)! To help you out with the challenges of grant-writing, we will be holding the following workshops:

October 25, 10:30-11:30 am, UC 4401: We’ll go over the application, talk about the proposal-writing process, and answer your questions. Madeline Bassnett, Undergraduate Chair of English, will lead this session, along with Aaron Schneider from Writing.

November 15, 11:30-1:30 pm, UC 4401: Come for pizza, bring your proposals, and consult with faculty from English and Writing Studies (including Profs. Bassnett, Schneider, and Keep). We’ll help you organize your thoughts, develop your ideas, and tighten your prose.

November 22, 12:30-1:30 pm, UC 4401: Bring your lunch and join Profs Bassnett and Schneider to discuss and get feedback on your Master’s application statements. We’ll give you guidance on how you can draw on your CGS proposals as well as how to write successful statements from scratch.

Please email with any questions you may have about applying to our program, or about applying for scholarships in general. Because if you are interested in doing an MA next, you should definitely be thinking of applying for external scholarships!

CGS-M eligibility: you must have an overall average of 80% in each of the past two years of your university career and be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
