Ahmed (Mahdy) Hamada, Ph.D., P.Eng., M.ASCE, M.CSCE, Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, will present a talk entitled "Structural Engineering Careers Outside Academia"

Ahmed (Mahdy) Hamada, Ph.D., P.Eng., M.ASCE, M.CSCE, is an Assistant Professor LDA and Adjunct Research Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Western University. In addition, Mahdy is a High-rise Buildings Division Manager at Strik Baldinelli Moniz (SBM) consulting office in London, ON, Canada. Mahdy has over fourteen years of experience in teaching, research, and consulting in structure engineering. He consulted on major projects in Canada, USA, Middle-East, and Gulf Area. Anticipating the move to taller wood structures, especially Light-Framed Wood Buildings, Mahdy, in collaboration with The University of Western Ontario, is working on an extensive research program related to the behavior of Light-Framed Wood Buildings under Seismic and Wind Loads. In addition, he is teaching several courses at Western. He is a member of the task committee on Electrical Transmission Line Structural Loading responsible for updating the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Manual of Practice #74, Guidelines for Electrical Transmission Line Structural Loading. As well, Mahdy was the recipient of the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, the most prestigious Natural Science and Engineering Research (NSERC) postgraduate scholarship in Canada. In addition, he was the recipient of Civil and Environmental Engineering Structural Award, Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), MITACS Accelerate PhD Fellowship/award, and The Graduate Student Civil Seminar Presentation Competition. He successfully completed the Western Diploma in University Teaching and Learning.
