Research: A Passion for Life; Impact for Long After

Dr. El Naggar has served as Associate Dean Research for Western Engineering for 14 years. In addition, he conducted research on a wide range of topics that you will not believe. He will share some his experiences with emphasis on what research really meant to him. He will share examples of research projects, challenges he encountered, success stories and lessons learnt.


Prof. M. Hesham El Naggar, Ph.D., P.Eng., M. CSCE, F. EIC, F. ASCE 

Dr. El Naggar is a Professor of Engineering at Western University, Canada. He is Editor-In-Chief of Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering and Associate Editor of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal. He published more than 400 technical papers/book chapters on foundations, soil-structure interaction and geotechnical earthquake engineering; and consulted on major projects worldwide. He received numerous awards including: Geosynthetics, Stermac, Meyerhof, Canadian Geotechnical Colloquium Speaker, Western Faculty Scholar, Outstanding Teaching, and Research Excellence Awards as well as the 2015 Ontario Professional Engineers Medal for Engineering Research & Development. He is an elected Fellow of Engineering Institute of Canada and the American Society for Civil Engineers.
