Language reflects social constructs, relationships, and powers. Languages are fluid, changing as time and societies shift. Creating inclusive spaces by using the current and most appropriate terminology is essential to conveying the message that we practice allyship and respectful cross-cultural interactions. In this workshop, participants will be able to: · Identify the guiding principles of inclusive language. · Examine how and why certain language related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization has changed. · Explore examples of language that is presently derogatory and substitute them for language that conveys respect and validation for diversity. Attending this workshop will count towards the completion of the EDI Certificate Programs.
