Weekday Public Night at Cronyn Observatory

Date:
Monday, October 16, 2017
Time:
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Location:
Cronyn Observatory (CO)
Cost:
Free

Come on out and join us for stargazing on this weekday public night!

Sunset 6:40 p.m.

This is a time to view the skies through the telescope and to pose your favorite questions to the astronomer hosting the evening. Objects viewed vary with the season, but might include the Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, binary stars, star clusters, planetary nebulae, or galaxies. There is nothing like seeing these wonders with your own eyes! In the lecture theatre, a professional astronomer will deliver a short presentation for the public on a current astronomical topic. Visitors can also enjoy the rich history of our Observatory by visiting our 1940s period room, and our telescope control room set for July 1, 1967 in celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary.
In the event of cloudy skies, the observatory will still be open for the presentation, historical tours and a look at the telescopes, but observing will not be possible and closing time might be earlier.
Members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada are also on hand with their portable telescopes set up on the Observatory balcony and front lawn. If you're interested in doing some astronomy as a hobby, these are the people to talk to.
There is no charge, and reservations are not necessary; come and go as you please throughout the evening.
