will present a talk entitled:

"Metal Catalyzed Carbonylation Reactions"

Abstract:
Transition metal complexes are highly effective catalysts for a wide range of chemical transformations.  Carbonylation reactions catalyzed by transition metal complexes are useful for the preparation of functionalized acyclic and heterocyclic compounds, some of which are of potential or demonstrated value in the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and commodity chemical industries.

This presentation will describe the use of carbonylation for olefin alkoxycarbonylation, highly chemoselective and regioselective alkoxycarbonylation and aminocarbonylation reactions from aminophenols and haloarenes, styrenes, or alkynes, including the facile synthesis of avenanthramide A which has antiinflammatory, anti-itching, and antihistamine activity.  Novel approaches to heterocycles (N-fused) via dearomatic carbonylation will also be presented.
