Dufresne offers an accessible 'big picture' exploration of climate change against the backdrop of climate science, climate politics, and widespread alarmism about the future.  His goal in this lecture is to complete the discussion launched on CBC IDEAS and advance his dual claims about 'the democracy of suffering' and 'utopic realism'.

Todd Dufresne is a Professor of Philosophy. He is well-known as the author of three major works on Freud and psychoanalysis, Tales From the Freudian Crypt (Stanford University Press, 2000), Killing Freud (Continuum, 2003), and The Late Sigmund Freud (Cambridge University Press, 2017); editor of three new editions of classic books by Sigmund Freud, Beyond the Pleasure Principle, Future of an Illusion, and Civilization and Its Discontents (Broadview Books, 2011-2016); author of a book about climate change and philosophy, The Democracy of Suffering (McGill-Queen's University Press, 2019); and as a repeat guest on CBC IDEAS, most recently for a three part lecture series called "Climate Change and the Unborn Future: Capitalism, Philosophy, and Pandemic Politics (2021).
